09.17.2002 03:51pm - First Blog Entry

Comments (13)

Hi....

This is my first attempt at a 'blog entry. I intend to write something here, my latest news or whatever, about once a week. I don't know if anybody will even be interested in reading this, so it is mostly just for "ME". I got the idea from Corey Scholefield ( coreman.com ) who was telling me about his 'blog this summer while we were in Tofino (see the pictures here at Tofino Pics. They're not all up there yet but hopefully soon.)

So I have finally decided to get off my butt and try to get my webpage up to date. I was inspired by my sister Susan ( Susan's Homepage ) who is very good at keeping her site up to date, it is so nice to check it out and see what she has been up to, her latest pictures of rock-climbing are COOL. Now that I think my knee is really back to normal (after surgery in April) I am hoping to take up climbing again soon. So hopefully I will do a better job keeping my site up to date from now on.

What else is going on in my life? Well, we had a fun weekend. On Friday afternoon we skipped out of work a little early to go mountain biking at Erwin park. In the evening we went out to a big drag show, Miss Gay Texas, with Dan, Vanessa, Danny and Dustin. That was verrrrrry entertaining. Also over the weekend we rented a jet-ski for a couple hours on Lavon Lake (about 20 minutes from our house in Allen, TX). It was really fun. Ted was a crazy driver and threw me off into the lake twice. I drove also but didn't manage to throw him off, although I tried! :) Anyway, those things are so fun, and SO fast.

This week my friend (and ex-manager, he got promoted and was my manager briefly before I left Vancouver) Andrew Carr is coming to visit. We've got some fun stuff planned. I'll report it in my next entry! Actually I may have to make a couple entries (not just weekly!) for a while, so I can tweak my set-up here.

Later,

Janice

Hey! Nice work on selecting greymatter for your back-end. I have used it before, and it is a decent tool - lots of ways to customize it! We had a *blast* looking at the photos on the site of our trip - you guys rock! Justine sent you an email to brindleweb so hope you got it.....if you have a really *active* blog then we will come back here all the time to hang out! whoo!

whoops - the refresh was slow on that one, and I inadvertantly poste 2 times...that is one thing to watch out for with greymatter - the way he accepts the comment and then shoots out the redir - mebee it is just my Opera, but it wasn't getting the message....

c:-)

Hi Corey, and thanks. I need to customize some more, this is just a start. Got the main page all done but not the rest. The slow refresh... yeah I noticed it. Is there anything I can do, blog-master?

Hmmm....good question...Noah Grey *knows* how to code...so the tool is solid. I have noticed the refresh before is a bit sticky, and intermittent. Have not looked at the code, so lemme peek to see what is up....there are at least 2 common ways to do it...

now all is working smooth....hmmm.....

Posted by on 09.20.2002 01:09am CST

yeah, gm-comments.cgi on or about line 460 "Location" just shells out the URL to the browser on stdout. Should be ok, but I wonder if there is an explicit buffer flush needed there...?

hmmm...wait a minute...Preview then Post works faster than just Post....

now we are getting somewhere....do you code in Perl..?

Posted by on 09.20.2002 05:24pm CST

hey, where are those Stampede pics ? I get 404 on that link...

Posted by on 09.23.2002 09:54am CST

Corey, amazing, thanks for looking into this for me! :) I do not code in perl much, but I'm sure I could figure it out with a little guidance. I've done a few minor things.

The stampede pics are not up yet, that's why the 404. I'll get it done eventually. Same with the Inks lake and the "Links". I was thinking I'd work on the links page today (I can do that from work, whereas the pictures are all on our computer at home).

Anyway let me know about the perl stuff.

ok, yeah there is something there to do with the page refresh - the code is ok, so I wonder if it is just my browser or something - we could play around with a couple of things...say, where you got hosting for brindleweb ?
