02.03.2003 09:50am - Beautiful Weekend

Comments (4)

We just had the most amazing weekend (weather-wise) here in Dallas. It was about 25 C each day and sunny, and with this nice warm wind blowing. I was hopeful that the weather might stay like that for a while, but it is supposed to start cooling off already today.

I got to bike at Erwin Park on Saturday for the first time in ages, as it has finally had time to dry out there. Ted was working and it was my first time ever biking totally alone. It's a pretty well-used trail and it loops around so you're never very far from the entrance, so I wasn't worried. I did have a kind of nasty crash, they've done some work on the trail and there was a new bridge that I wasn't expecting, and it was kind of narrow, and I was going too fast... and I endo'ed off the side of it. Ooops. I really hurt my wrist (it is still a little swollen and sore today) but managed to finish the trail anyway.

The strangest thing this weekend was the whole space shuttle thing. Very sad. I didn't listen to the news on Saturday at all, so I had no idea what had happened. However on our way out to the Ultimate fields to party Saturday night we saw one of those electronic signs over the highway that said, "Call police to report space shuttle debris" and we thought - what the heck? So we had to tune in to the radio to get the bad news.

Nice to hear the weather is treating you right. Up here, I can barely see my screen as the sun is streaming in the window! Ya for nice weather!!

Hope your wrist gets better soon...!

I was wondering if you folks got a glimpse of that shuttle accident there on Saturday....what an awful horrible thing...they are showing pictures on the news up here of all the debris and it is quite heart-breaking....

The technical analysts on the Discovery Channel last night painted a very dark picture of what may have happened to the craft as it began to drag on the left side...

Hi Panice! Hi Ted! I got bored at work one day and ended up at your site, only to find that you're totally nerding out with it. Way cool :)

I just bought my first mountain bike since I was a wee lad - a 2001 Rocky Mountain Element ( http://www.bikes.com/2001/html/elementpage.htm ). I picked it up in late August 2002. It's pretty nuts learning to mountain bike on the North Shore, but it's fun! I can totally sympathize with your endo'ing experience. Oooh...

Cecil, no way, long time no chat! Am I "totally nerding out"? ;) I still check out http://me.cecil.com from time to time. Rocky Mtn Element is a pretty nice bike! Well suited to North Shore type stuff. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that there's nothing quite like the North Shore here, we are definitely stuck in cross-country world. But we are planning to ride at Whistler (bikes on the ski lift) when we come back in the summer, should be awesome!

Hi Core, yeah the shuttle thing is definitely a sad tragedy. We didn't see any debris. I did see some firemen standing out in a field across from my house, so maybe...? We are a bit far west though. Our friends EP and Wayne (they've commented here a few times) are from farther east and sent pictures of shuttle debris found in their hometown.

My wrist is better. However, not 100% surprisingly - I still can't rest my weight on it (like getting out of bed) or it hurts and kind of collapses. If it keeps on much longer I may have to get it looked at.

emd, too much sun on the computer screen is a good problem to have, especially in Vancouver! The good weather is all over here now, it is cold and rainy the last 1.5 days. :(
