05.16.2003 09:39am - Byron Nelson

Our friends Dan and Vanessa got 4 free tickets to the Bryon Nelson golf tournement, so we went with them yesterday. It was just a "qualifying round" but it was pretty fun. Those pros can really whack that ball! Wow.

Neither Tiger Woods or Mike Weir were there, the two I would have been most interested in seeing. We did see some other "big names". We saw Sergio Garcia, Jim Furyk (who was tied for 2nd place at the end of the day), Shigeki Maruyama. We watched Cameron Beckman blow his 2nd place position with a double bogey on hole 17! Yikes! First place after the day was Jeff Sluman at -7.

It was a beautiful day for it (cloudy and not too hot) and it was just fine to spend the day sitting in the grass instead of at work. :) The funniest thing I thought, was how they "shush" everyone for the guys to take their shots. A whole huge crowd of people and you could hear a pin drop.

This afternoon we are off to Houston to visit Guy, who is there on a business trip! Should be fun.

Jim Furyk has the funniest looking swing!

I forgot to mention the guy who turned out to be the most important... we actually followed Vijay Singh for a little bit and he turned out to be the winner! emd, I didn't notice Furyk's swing particularly, but I guess it works for him. All the players were so good... even the ones who weren't even close to winning were amazing... I guess that's why they are the pros. :)
