09.08.2003 03:16pm - Lost Bird

Last night we found a little yellow bird sitting in front of our door when we came home from dinner. He was obviously not a wild bird. I think he is a canary. We put the cats away and herded him into our house and he is now living in our spare room while we look for his owners.

We have called the local animal control and made a bunch of posters. The little guy is eating birdseed and drinking water, and is quite lively. He will come close to us but not let us touch him. He seems healthy. He has a bunch of feathers missing on the back of his head though, I'm not sure why.

We always find loose dogs and usually find their owners pretty quickly - the longest we've had one is overnight. I'm not sure how it will work with a bird though. If we don't find his owners soon, we're going to have to rustle up some better living quarters for him - right now he's loose in the spare room and pooping on the carpet. :(

In other news we really almost finished the RV this weekend! We have even put the curtains back up and put the panelling trim on inside. The only things left to do are put a little extra sealant (silicone) on the outside joins and then give it a good wash! I'll update the picture section soon.

Do lost animals just know to come to your place? You guys must give off friendly vibes!

It's funny, I always wondered this about OTHER people when they said "I'm always taking in strays" or something. I thought, "That's strange, I *never* see any strays wandering around". Then in the last 3 or 4 months we've had a Jack Russell, a Schnauzer, and a Shepherd come wandering around loose. The first two we found their owners within an hour or so. The Shepherd stayed overnight and we found her owners in the morning. And now this bird... we put up signs all over the neighborhood and even went door-to-door in some areas last night and nobody has claimed him as of yet.
