Just a little observation... every time I go clothes shopping it seems like my pant size is shrinking and my shirt size is growing. Only, I swear I am NOT changing! It's getting ridiculous.

For example, I bought a new shirt and a new pair of pants last week. I had to get size "0" (is that really a size?) in the pants and they are still a bit baggy. Then I bought a shirt to go with them, and I had to buy size "large" so as not to get something skin-tight that would be kind of indecent at work. Now, I swear I used to wear size 4-6 in pants and S-M in shirts!

When I buy pants I always think, "What do the really tiny people wear?" because I am by no means the smallest person around. And then when I buy shirts I think, "What do the bigger people wear?" because I am buying a large and I'm definitely "smaller than average", so I can't imagine....

Also concerning is that this trend has been going on for about 3 years or so, it seems to me, and I wonder how much further it can go! Will I have to start shopping in "petites" for pants and "plus sizes" for shirts???

Anyway, something strange is happening in the clothing industry, that's for sure.

It's all part of the North American body image culture. It's esthetically desirable to be large on top and tiny (except for JLo) on the bottom.

I'm tired of it - I preferred it when we had standardized sizing and you knew what to try on instead of carrying 4 different sizes to the change room. (I also think that the more expensive the brand, the smaller the size on the label).

Hi Lila. It's crazy, isn't it? I kept having to ask the dressing-room-attendant to get me a smaller and smaller size! He probably thought, "why doesn't this weirdo know her own size?" ... then again, maybe he's used to it.

Hey there,
I've noticed the same thing!!! The wierd thing is I bought two sweaters at American Eagle in the last 6 months...one was a large and the other a small...their sized definetly aren't standardized...can't say I'm buying a size 0 pants yet though...

While we're talking fashion I would like to know why all outdoorsy clothes is designed the way it is...a size small pants is fine around the waist (or even a little snug) but the crotch still goes down to my knees and there is so much extra material in the butt it flaps in the wind...(and yes I do have an ass;) If anyone happens to find low rise, fitted (which is different from tight) outdoor pants (especially ones that zip off to become (nice) shorts) please let me know or buy me some for Christmas ;)

Hey Sue, I know what you mean. Maybe outdoorsy people are supposed to like their pants pulled up to their armpits... Who knows. But I have the same problem!
