Anyone out there who knows brindleweb like the back of their hands will notice a few minor changes in the last few days....

I upgraded my gallery software to Gallery 1.4. Not really for the new features, of which there was nothing earth-shattering, but just because I like to keep things up to date... that way 5 years down the road I don't suddenly find I am using an unsupported version.

Then I changed my "photo" link to point directly to the gallery main page instead of my old page with a list of photo albums. I think the gallery main page looks cool, and it lessens the work I have to do to keep that other photo list up to date.

I also upgraded my blog software to Movable Type 2.64. Again, just to keep it current, not really for any new features.

Then I changed the setup of my WebSearch script. It used to do a real-time search every time, which ensures it gets the most up to date results, but as brindleweb grows and grows it was getting slower and slower. So, I changed it to the other option, which is to use a pre-created search index to search the site. This means that when I add new content the search may be out of date. However, I added a cron job to update the search index every midnight, so that should keep things pretty up to date.

The other good news about the search script, is that it does have the ability to search a WebBBS bulletin board. However, when I first installed it I couldn't get that option working. Now, it is working correctly. So people who search brindleweb.com will also find any matches from the BC Pet Rescue bulletin board.
