For once on the blog I actually have big news. I've decided to present it pictorially. Here is a picture taken on December 5th:

So yes, what I'm saying is, that Ted and I are expecting a new addition. The due date is August 16th. We are really happy and excited!
No, this is NOT related to my last entry about a week's worth of throwing up! That was definitely a stomach virus - the only thing that may be pregnancy-related is that it lasted so long, apparently my body may be too overloaded doing other things to fight off illnesses very quickly. Other than that, I have been feeling really well! I have only had minor nausea and food aversions so far, nothing even worth complaining about really. And since the first trimester is already over hopefully I don't have to worry about it getting any worse.
My belly is barely showing. I mean, I can tell. But so far my old clothes is still fitting me and nobody else can tell. It is starting to pop out a bit so I'm sure it won't be long!
We don't know "boy or girl" yet and I think we're going to wait and be surprised!

Hey Janice,
I must admit, I've been feeling a little nostalgic this week...thinking about this time last year. Its all clear now why you guys didn't make the annual trek to New Orleans this year. Maybe next year you, Ted and the "little one" can make it to Ottawa for the Canada Day festivities....much tamer than Mardi Gras, but certainly much more "family friendly".

By the way, you should post pictures of yourself as the pregnancy progresses. Those are always fun!

Hi Cathy, thanks for your kind wishes. I always wonder how many folks from the board surf around on the rest of the site from time to time. :) It will be interesting to see what our "furkids" think of having a human child in the family. At least we have 4 of them so they're used to having to share our attention. Jewel is fine with kids. Maki loves them. Chewy hides when they're around. Tigger is the hardest one, he gets really nervous around loud rowdy active children. Ted thinks it will work out better since the child will be growing up with us and Tigger will see him/her every day rather than just visiting, and have lots of time to get used to him/her growing more and more active. Well, who knows, we'll see how it goes and make sure to supervise and teach BOTH sides about how to treat each other.
Tina, Canada Day sounds great! I have always wanted to go back for that, it is a very fond memory of Ottawa for me. (Remember my eyebrow ring?) Too bad it didn't work out for LAST summer but we should definitely consider it for next summer. Maybe it can be our new annual festival instead of Mardi Gras. It is definitely more kid-friendly!
I am planning to put up monthly-or-so "belly shots" on this site. I've taken the first two sets already (not much to see!) and just need to get around to uploading them. I am not looking forward to having to buy a bunch of maternity clothes. Oh well. I know I am lucky to be wearing my own clothes this long already - I have some friends who are also pregnant right now and were out of their own clothes ages ago! For the first time yesterday, the pants I planned to wear to work didn't fit. :( Luckily most of my pants are looser and "low rise" which helps.

OMG..Janice, you should have emailed me..I am sooo happy for you. Now I bet you wish you were Canadian and got that year off!!!
I can't tell you how happy I am for you. My little one is 16 months old now..how time flies by. Life will never, ever be the same...
My husband always says, what did we do for entertainment before Eric was born???
But ENJOY your husband now...I am so happy the few moments Cameron and I get together. It is a totally life altering experience, I must say. Welcome soon to one of the greatest loves you'll know...as well as the most sleepless night you'll ever know ...

Whoa...like a picture and everything....congrats!!! Wow, like really wow....err life altering is right....now of course I want to know if the ultrasound shows just one or are you going to be lucky and do the multiple like we did :-) Yes enjoy those quiet evenings alone in peace now..before you know its bottles, Barney, diapers and exhaustion. Ahh but it's also smiles and giggles, laughter and little hands. The work is hard but so is the reward!

Lori, you're right, I really do wish I was working in Canada right now and could get my 12 months maternity leave (just to clarify, I *am* still Canadian!) My secret plan (shhh, I haven't told the work people) is to do whatever it takes to get my 12 months off... probably an unpaid leave of absence. I can't believe women here go back to work after 6-8 weeks - that seems crazy to me!
Anyway, thanks for your nice message. I'm glad you and Cameron and Eric are doing well. You should send me some updated pics of that little one!

Guy, I strongly doubt I would have twins or more, I don't know what the chances are, but it's not something that either Ted or I have in our families. But I guess we'll see! Honestly I don't know if I'm up for it, I'm a little nervous about the workload of looking after ONE baby. But whatever happens, happens! :)

Hey Elise, good to see you online! Hope you are enjoying have Ted around this weekend.

*chuckle* Actually the family genetics appear to have little to do with twins according to most research. The chances of having twins seems to increase with a) use of fertility enhancers b) age of the lady . Both of these stimulate egg release and hence increase chances of fraternal twins because multiple eggs are available all at the same time.
As far as identical twins, chances seem to remain the same all along the way as its just one egg.
Okay enough reproduction of twins....
Since we went out of the gate with twins err we're sure how much easier or difficult one would be except to note we would probably add another child had it be one. I mean the first while with twins is difficult with two youngsters charging off in different directions but I also see the situation of children at different ages being challenging as the parents have one asking " Why ...why ...why " as your changing the toddler, doing the shopping etc etc :-)
Now beyond twins to me would , in my mind , be a really large handful :-)

I'm surprised, I thought it was hereditary. It certainly seems that some families are predisposed to it! Well, either way, I think my chances are slim, but I guess you never know.
I agree with you about "more than twins" - YIKES!!!

Hi Janice,
Another brindleweb user - you've helped with so many rescue dogs - you have no idea!
So, I'm guilty, snooping around the rest of your site with your RL friends. Congratulations on your new baby, what wonderful news!!!

Hi Dana, thanks - for the congrats and about the rescue animals. I used to volunteer and foster, but these days I mostly help out in other ways (like the board), I love hearing that it is useful.
I wouldn't call it "snooping" - I wouldn't be putting this stuff on the internet if I didn't expect it to be read! :)
Thanks for all YOU do for the rescue critters too!

Best wishes! Say hi to Ted!

Hi Cecil and Kevin, good to hear from you guys!
Cecil I really enjoyed the wedding pics on your site, your wedding looks lovely and the honeymoon seems like lots of fun! I can't believe you get skiing so often... I love skiing, but I think you are OBSESSED! :)
Hey Kevin, I enjoyed your site (but I couldn't find anywhere to leave comments - not even a guestbook?). Good to see you are still hiking and lots of other fun stuff.
Anyway, thanks for the congrats!
