Exciting things are happening around the Potberry residence this week. We are going to have a very different master bedroom and bath when we are finished! We started planning to paint and get new carpet, but one thing lead to another and it turned into quite a big reno project!
The carpet in the house is in serious need of replacement so we have been slowly replacing it room by room (usually with something OTHER than carpet, but for our bedroom we wanted to keep carpet). So we've got some new carpet on order, hopefully it should come in the next week or so.
We've also been wanting since we moved in to paint the master bath but never got around to it. It is currently wallpapered, we call it the "circus tent" because the wallpaper is bold, bright, burgundy and off-white stripes. The bedroom is also burgundy and off-white (although just paint, thankfully, not circus tent wallpaper). So we started making plans to do the painting.
Then we thought while we were at it, we should really fix the tiles in our shower stall. The grout was starting to get discolored and cracked. While investigating that, we discovered that some of them had already been leaking and the wall behind was rotten. So that meant we had to rip out a bunch of the tile, fix the wall behind, lay in new tiles and then re-grout.
Then we thought, since we were doing THAT and we would have to remove the glass shower stall to get at the tiles anyway, we should just go ahead and get a new shower stall (the glass part) since the old one was really crappy. The door didn't close tightly anymore and the metal was a gaudy gold color that was kind of peeling off.
And THEN we decided, we would replace it with a stall that has a "brushed nickel" metal frame instead of gold. But that meant we had to replace all the faucets, towel racks, light fixtures, and even door handles because they were all gold too. Which we were happy to do, since they were also crappy looking and peeling as well.
So last week we did the tile and grout ourselves. We had to have the shower stall (the glass part) custom-made and it was installed Friday. It looks really nice. Over the weekend we installed all the new faucets and light fixtures and stuff. Starting today we have hired a neighborhood guy to paint. Then the last thing will be the carpet which we're not sure when it will arrive.
Ted has been taking pictures all throughout the project so we should be able to post some good "before" and "after" shots if I am not too lazy to actually put them up!
