08.14.2004 11:03am - Boy or Girl?

Comments (24)

Does anybody out there in cyberspace want to take a guess on whether we'll have a boy or a girl? We are still opting for a "surprise" so we haven't found out. We are asking folks to guess gender, birthdate, and weight. It'll be fun later to see who was closest.

Here are the relevant facts:

Gender: Not many "facts" available about this. Most of the "old wives tales" type stuff seem to point to a girl. The genetics of Ted's family (he is one of 5 brothers!) point to a boy though. I don't seem to have any "mother's intuition", I wishy-wash from day to day about what I think it will be.

Birthdate: Well, the due date is Aug 16th. I've heard that first-time pregnancies are on average 8 days late so I am trying to stay patient! Most everybody else (including my midwife) seems to think it'll happen a lot sooner.

Weight: My midwife guessed 7 - 7.5 lbs. Another midwife I saw 2 weeks ago guessed 6.5 - 7. I feel like I'm pretty big and the baby feels big inside moving around!

Here are the guesses we have so far:

  • Janice: girl, born Aug 21st, 7lbs 2oz.
  • Ted: girl, born Aug 14th (yes, that's TODAY, he's impatient! ;), 7lbs 12oz.
  • Janice's Mom: boy, born Aug 16th, 8lbs 0oz.
  • Janice's Dad: boy, born Aug 19th, 7lbs 3oz.
  • Denise Canning: boy, August 12th (ooops, already missed this one), 8lbs 4oz.
  • Dan Canning: boy, August 19th, 8lbs 3oz.

Send in a guess if you want!

Thanks for all the guesses!

So far the tally is: 10 for boy, 6 for girl. Only counting Ted's LATEST one of course. Is that fair??? ;)

1 day late and no sign of labor yet...

My parents and sister have arrived in town so we'd be happy with "any time now".

Hi Ted and Janice. Just had to check your web site as today is Grandpa's birthday and I was just talking to him. Hope you have the baby today and that all goes well. Will be thinking of you. Grandpa and Grandma will be here for dinner tonight so if your ears are burning, it's because we are talking about you. Enjoy the wonderful experience ahead of you.
Love Uncle Fred and Aunt Sandy.

Hi Janice and Ted,
Ok, we'll give it a go...girl, 7lbs 8oz, born on Saturday August 21st (that's our wedding anniversary!). It was a wonderful day for myself and John B...maybe it'll be a special day for you too. We're checking daily for the big news! Can't wait to see pics of the baby. I hope you are feeling good and everything is well.

All our love,
