05.05.2005 02:14pm - Back to Canada

We are coming back to Canada.... and not just for a visit! Ted's been working for almost a year now to convince his managers and get approval for us to be relocated, and now it's been approved and we will be moving to Ottawa!

Why Ottawa? Well, we would prefer either of the coasts but Ottawa is the only place that Nortel will relocate us to. If we wanted to go anywhere else we'd have to find new jobs and pay for the move ourselves - which is a huge expense. I don't know if we will be happy to settle in Ottawa permanently or if we will still be too far away from our families and miss the ocean too much. But it is a step in the right direction! I am thrilled that my folks will only be a 3 hour flight away instead of a 12-hour journey (no direct flights from TX to NL, and when you factor in the stopovers you are LUCKY to get there in 12 hours - my parents' last trip here they had a delay and it took them 19 hours!!!) We are also excited about having ski hills nearby, hiking and camping, etc. We are not thrilled at the prospect of the Ottawa winter. I used to find the summer scary too but I think after living in Texas we might be okay with that one. The winter though... well, we'll have to see how we do. Anyway, it'll just be good to get back to Canada.

Of course we will miss some things about Texas; our friends, our house, our pool, and the cheaper cost of living. Also since having Peyton I've been noticing that things are extremely family-friendly around here, I guess we'll see if Ottawa is the same.

When? That's the detail that is still missing. We just got the final approval and haven't put our house up for sale or any of that stuff yet. Ted is hoping for sometime in June. That seems soon to me. I guess we'll see.

We are planning to RV up again, just like we got down here from Vancouver. We are doing that mostly so we don't have to put the animals through a flight in the cargo hold. Also it might be a fun RV trip - well, that's the idea, although Peyton's protests on the 5-hour car ride from Vancouver to Vernon a few weeks ago have us pretty worried!

In the next couple of weeks we will be taking a house-hunting trip up that way to try to figure out where we're going to live!

So to our Ottawa friends and family.... see you soon!!!

I, for one, cannot wait to get you all closer! Three hours compared to twelve or more is better, that is for sure! We have always enjoyed our jaunts to Texas though, but I am sure we will enjoy visiting you where ever you are! It has been 7 weeks since we saw Peyton and we are suffering from Peyton withdrawal - we need another fix - and sooner rather than later! It is likely to be later though - no more holidays till July - boo-hoo:( Put up some more pictures asap - please! I want to see that crawling!

Love, Mom ( NL Nanny)

I CAN'T wait to have you guys back here too! I don't like Texas much (talk about urban sprawl and strip malls!) and I'm sure you guys will find a lovely spot in Ottawa! Can't wait to take Peyton to Gatineau! Can Chaya and I jump in on that caravan?!? Keep me posted on when and where are you driving through!

Hey Mom & Sue, yes, Ottawa will be an improvement over Texas for sure... hope not too many Texans read this... no offence, we've had fun in Texas, but Susan is right that at least THIS part of Texas is all urban sprawl and strip malls!

I will get some new pics of Peyton up as soon as I get some more good ones.

Sue, we were planning to make a long trip of it and come up the east coast, and even visit Newfoundland along the way. Now Ted doesn't think he can get that much time off work. In addition we got really worried by our 5 hour drive to/from Vernon in BC a few weeks ago... Peyton cried almost the whole way! So now we're thinking we may have to do it much more quickly. So I'm not sure we will even make it to Halifax. :( Anyway, we will keep you informed of the plans and you and Chaya are definitely welcome to join us if we can find a way!

Ted and Janice,
Wow! That is awesome news! John and I were both very excited to read that you guys are moving back to Canada, especially to Ottawa. Ottawa is a great city as you know and its a great place to raise Peyton. John and I are heading to NF tomorrow for 10 days to visit with family. We get back on the 23rd. When are you coming to look for a place? Let us know. If you need a place to stay, we'd love to have you. We can't wait ot see you and meet little Peyton.

We'll talk to you soon,
Tina & JOhn B.
